Funky Foto Flashback: Rock On!

June 18, 2009 12:01 am

We moved to Florida from New York when I was three. This picture was sometime before the move, I can tell by the presence of an actual rock. We don’t have rocks or mountains in Florida, it’s flat and boring. Every summer when we visited NY, my mom stashed a few “northern rocks” in the car on the trip home. She now has them all displayed in her flower garden and is the envy of non-rock-having Floridians everywhere.

Look at that adorable kid. My kids have some big cuteness shoes to fill, that’s for sure.

That is one big rock! All we’ve got in our yard is coral. Coral is lame.

You were so cute. But you look like a trouble maker, a rock riding trouble maker. πŸ˜‰

    SO cute! Love the picture!

I never thought about NOT having rocks around – in MI, we have plenty. Funny to think that they’re not necessarily a part of everyone’s landscape!

It’s the opposite for me, every year when we’d visit NY, I’d always think how strange the rocks/landscaping looks compared to our sand and pebbles.

Cuba has everything from rivers, to mountains, to cities. When I came to the US, I was so impressed by all the little things (shopping centers for one, which are a huge difference from a “bodega” which is small, dirty, and you can’t pick your own goods) that I noticed nothing about the layout of the land. I was also only 9 years old.

Then I went to Vegas. I swear that I hardly remember anything about that first visit as I spent the entire time I was there looking out at the gorgeous mountains that surrounded the bright little hole in the land.

Then I came back to Miami and was bored. Been bored ever since. We have the crazies to make up for it, but it visually boring.

I wont even get into going to Frisco. Oh man… You can see the water from almost any place in the city. The hills… Sigh….

Isn’t that illegal toting rocks across state lines?? I’m turning you in, girlie. Or your mom.

This story just reminded me of “The Long Trailer” with Lucy and Desi Arnez–they collected boulders from everywhere the went and stored them in the trailer. Everytime they turned a corner, all the rocks would roll around wrecking havoc inside the trailer.

Yeah you were cute–where’s the awkward, dorky photos anyway?? I’ve got lots of those unfortunately.

Dude. Please come to Utah. I live at the foot of a huge mountain. Google “Mount Timpanogos”. That’s where I live. You can have all the rocks you want!
Everything I know about Florida is from your blog. Except the one fact that it’s the flattest state in the country. It’s so weird that we live in the same country and our landscape is soooooo different! Crazy.
Oh, ya. What a freakin’ DARLING picture!!!
