Club Half As Small As You: Week 33 June 8, 2009 6:00 am Welcome to week 33 of Club HASAY! Not sure what HASAY is? Read all about it here. I’m sore all over and I got quite the workout this weekend. I’d like to tell you that I spent hours at the gym but that’s just not the case. My parents took Graham on Saturday for an overnight stay which left Jamie and I racing to get DIY projects done while we had the time. You’d be surprised at how much time you have with one less kid on your hands. Early Saturday afternoon, I went to Lowes and got the necessary supplies for my first project. Then I backed the truck up to the house, put the ladder in the back and scaled the roof. Yes, we’re white trash but we don’t have a ladder tall enough to reach the house so we make do with what we have. I spent a couple of grueling hours replacing the rusty screws on our leaky patio roof and sealing the entire roof. I had a hard time not passing out in direct sun and hot Florida heat but I made it. One box of 120 screws later, I came down for the night. I have tar from the hot roof burned into the palms of both hands and it’s not washing off after three showers and umpteen tries with a scrub brush. Next up was our old mildewy Adirondack chairs. After Elliot was fed/bathed/sleeping, Jamie and I each tackled a chair. We had six cans of spray paint and were determined to get the damn chairs painted already. Six cans of spray paint in left us with sore fingers and far from painted chairs. My finger was stuck in the “on” position for an hour afterward from holding the spray paint cans for so long. I tried to type an email but couldn’t even keep my right hand on the home keys so I gave up for the night. Jamie and I ordered take out and watched TV all night instead. On Sunday morning, I headed back to the hardware store and got another box of roofing screws. I went back up and finished the job. Then I cut the Oak tree branches that were hanging too low. If you recall, we don’t have a tall ladder so I drove the truck around to the spots where I needed it and scaled the ladder in the back of the truck. I weebled and wobbled but didn’t fall down. Just barely though. Then I carried the ladder around the yard and cut random branches on random trees. I only fell off of the ladder once but in my defense, a piece of moss attacked my hair and I was sure it was a Black Widow trying to bite me. Last night it rained and I was excited to see my newly repaired patio roof. My repair work could use some repairs and the roof has sprouted more leaks. My Adirondack chairs are still unfinished and my right pointer finger feels like it was smashed with a hammer. My back and legs are sore and I’ve got dried paint and caulk all over my body. In the interest of exercise, I’m counting this weekend’s work for my next several workouts. At least until I’m able to walk without groaning or even dial a phone. Maybe I should incorporate some senior citizen type exercises into my daily routine. Any suggestions? ———————————————————————————- Just when I though HASAY was losing steam, we’ve had an influx of new members. Check out the member’s page to see who’s on board.
