A Budding Friendship

January 29, 2009 6:00 am

Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a change in my kids. Elliot hasn’t suffered as much abuse at the hand of her jealous brother. In a few instances, Graham has actually alluded to the fact that he might be starting to like her.

They shared a bath where Elliot didn’t get pushed underwater.

Elliot got within two feet of Graham and didn’t get punched.

She TOUCHED his toy and he let her.

They worked together to prepare a meal. (Yes, that is Elmo/Cookie Monster in the microwave. Why do you ask?)

They enjoyed said meal together.

They watched Blues Clues while having a snack and destroying our carpet. Together. (That’s Graham’s birthday cake hat that one of us wears daily while we sing happy birthday to everything in sight)

I’m not sure if it’s a fluke or that Graham is just too sleep deprived to beat on his sister but I’ve been enjoying watching them together. I know we’re not out of the woods yet but I’m glad to have gotten a glimpse of the relationship they might have someday soon.

So cute. I want a second one someday. I know my sister and I would go through love/hate phases, but in general we got along.

    DEEEEEE!!!!!!
    Sorry, I missed that!
I know where you got that hat! At the same store where I was accosted by some random schmoe! Table and chairs look familiar too, hm. (Love that store!)
My sister and I were 21 months apart, sometimes we acted like twins, sometimes we acted like we didn’t know each other. It’s good to see them getting along. And Elliot’s cheeks need some serious chomping. NOM!

The way my mom tells it, I use to beat up on my brother. I was the younger sister and I would walk by and slug him at random as a baby. I wish I never stopped! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If this keeps up can you send some of that love up to Wisconsin? My kids need a rubber room and a score card. Seriously, I never thought that a boy and girl would pick at each other so much.

Aha, this is the beginning of a lovely friendship. Then they begin to plot against you…

Many is the time I lay down the law to either Jones or Pony Girl, and as soon as my back is turned they have their heads together whispering. I can only surmise they are saying how MEAN I am and plotting how to trade me for a nicer mom or put ex-lax in my mocha.

    Love your pictures today!!

That’s pretty cute. And not giving Elliot the smack down when she touched a toy is MAJOR.

The sibling relationship is fascinating to watch develop. Jake gets quickly frustrated by Lena, but the first random kid that laughed at her when she fell off the toboggan last weekend got a pretty hard shove complements of Jake coupled with a โ€œSHUT UP sheโ€™s only THREE!โ€ It was awesome.

Oh. Em. Gee. What adorable little angels! I really hope they continue to be friendies. My son and daughter get along really well. They’d be so bored without each other. Of course, if you asked them, they’d tell you they hate each other.

There’s 7 years between my 2nd and 3rd kids and I’m definitely having another baby so Harley can have a playmate. (and so he doesn’t expect me to entertain him because I can’t be bothered)

They are so sweet together. I love the spaghetti faces. It’s kind of a pain in the ass now, but eventually they’re gonna be best buds. My girls despise each other most days, but whenever I walk in on them being decent to each other, it melts my mommy heart.

Yeah! For now there is peace. It may get worse again, but they will always love each other because they are the closest relatives they will have with the exception of mommy and daddy.

Wow. That was the most obvious and stupid statement ever. but you know what I mean….when you and your husband are gone, they will still have each other.

    OK. Now that was depressing.
