Welcome to week 13 of the HASAY challenge! Not sure what HASAY is? Read all about it here.
Today’s guest poster is Debbie from Buzzin’ By… With Thoughts On The Fly. Debbie never fails to crack me up and we’ve had a stalker relationship going on for months now. I’m content with us stalking each other so I don’t see any reason to change things. Debbie’s HASAY workouts are unconventional but hilarious. Have a read:
Motivation. We can do it. Yes! We Can! To borrow the catch phrase from Barack Obama who will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States tomorrow, Yes. We Can! We can step it up a notch. We can do more than we’ve been doing. We can walk a bit farther than we have been. We can do five more sit ups than we’ve been doing. And ok, fine, dammit, we can say no to that chocolate chip cookie.
I’ve been settling for “well, my jeans still fit” and that would be fine IF I were the weight I needed to be and all I needed to do is maintain. But maintaining where I am now just isn’t cutting it – far from it. So, I’m slowly kicking it up a notch. I am … are you ready for this? … doing sit-ups. They aren’t even REAL sit-ups, but they are working. I lay on the bed with my legs hanging off and do sit ups that way. While I’m laying in bed at night watching television, I’m throwing in a round of sit-ups then too. And I’ll go into a sit-up and just hold it for as long as I can … OUCH. And my stomach muscles are literally screaming at me. And they aren’t screaming compliments either. They are pretty pissed off. They LIKE just lounging around waiting for the next cookie. They don’t like this idea of doing work. So they scream. Loudly. I’m trying to ignore them and focus on my motivation.
My motiviation? Health? Yeah, yeah .. sure. But the real movitivation? I recently reconnected with a girlfriend from high school. She was maid-of-honor at my first wedding. I got married and moved one way and she went on with her life in a different direction. It’s been THIRTY years since we’ve seen each other. And we’ve got a lunch date set for March 14. We’ve emailed back and fourth a couple of times and have each warned the other that “I’ve gained some weight since the last time I saw you.” And I’ll admit it right now … my motivation is that I want to be the thinner of the two of us. Oh, come on … you would feel the same way. I know you would. I certainly can’t lose everything I need to by March, but I do want to be the thinner of the two of us. Shallow? You betcha. Do I care? Nah.
It’s like going to a class reunion I suppose. I don’t have class reunions. When I was in 11th grade, my counselor told me I only needed one credit to graduate. I chose to take the class in summer school (six weeks of a two hour class versus another year in school) and graduated a year early. Which means I don’t have a graduating class … class reunion … never had senior week … no prom. I was 16 years old when I graduated from high school. The friend that I am meeting in March did the same thing.
After that, my motivation is summer. Thighs that rub together in the summer are nasty. They sweat. They chafe. They make your shorts scrunch up to your crotch all lopsided and you constantly have to ‘adjust’ while you’re walking. Four steps … adjust. Four more steps … adjust. You THINK you can adjust discreetly, but someone ALWAYS sees you. Always. So you try to find ways to just have the shorts fall back down to where they are supposed to be without adjusting by trying to walk a few steps with your legs spread wide apart because, hey, that’s not nearly as conspicuous as grabbing hold of your shorts and pulling them down. Sometimes when I get caught doing that, I try to make it look like I was dancing and really this just makes everything worse because now people aren’t sure if I’m doing the legs spread apart so my shorts would fall walk or if I’m doing some sort of obnoxious Elaine Benes dance.
And when you’re not adjusting your shorts, it’s underneath of your boobs that’s sweating and you’re constantly pulling on the bra. Yep .. my summer motivation in a word is “adjust.” I don’t want to adjust any more.
So, come on. Tell us your motivation. Not what you’re supposed to say, but what your motivation really is. Because curious minds want to know.
