I Love This Time Of Year

November 16, 2008 7:00 am

I spend a good portion of my year hating Florida because of it’s heat, humidity and hurricanes. I see northerners enjoying backyard BBQ’s without sweat dripping down their backs and I’m green with envy. For most of the year in FL, you can’t walk to your mailbox without coming back drenched in sweat and it’s miserable.

Around this time every year, the weather starts to cool off a bit. For those northerners I mentioned, this means packing up the summer clothes and heading inside for the winter. For us southerners, it means finally being able to play outside without feeling like we’re going to pass out.

I took these pictures during a fantastic outing we took last weekend to a local park. We were the only ones there (save the hawk in the treetop), and it was such a beautiful day.

It’s around this time every year that my resentment towards Florida wears off and I forget all about the heat and humidity. We’re finally bound for the great outdoors and we plan on spending the entire winter out there. Preferably in shorts and t-shirts but we’ll take what we can get.

First! I guess that’s what happens when your urchins wake you at ungodly hours…grrr. I’ve missed reading your blog and am so glad to see and hear about your great weather….snow was mentioned in our forecast ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Great shots! But, for the record, even here in the NE, we get drenched in sweat in the dog days of Aug. (not nearly as bad as you though, I am sure).

I was in Florida in January this year and the weather was perfect!

Just like Perth in late spring without the rain.

I get the best of both worlds, screamin’ hot in the summer and 40C below in the winter.

I say move to Virginia. We get plenty of heat but we generally have all four seasons and winters have been mild.

Great pictures though! Really love picture filled posts. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m jealous. We’re really far north, and we generally get winter weather from early October through to May. Sometimes, it snows in August. Feel better about your summer heat now? No? Well, at least I tried. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m moving from Toledo (cold, damp, dreary) to North Carolina. We are so looking forward to a temperate 4-season climate. But over the years, I have escaped to Florida in the winter from time to time. My next trip will be on the weekend just before the Superbowl (no football that weekend.) I have a friend in Tampa who hosts a yearly golf weekend on that specific weekend, and I try to never miss.

    Enjoy your better weather!

Great pictures. Yeah, it’s hot and humid in the summer and cold and wet in the winter here. I love Ohio. I’m moving to your house for the next 4 months. Get a bed ready!!

That is how most people here in California feel except we don’t get that dreaded humidity. I do know what it is like since I went to school in New Orleans. Oh boy that was bad. I was perspiring like a 200 pound gorilla. Very attractive huh? No wonder I was single…

Great pics! In Seattle, we have rain and about 50 degrees in the winter. Summer, it’s rain and 51. My kids have sprouted webbed feet, but I can’t say I didn’t see it coming.

I’m glad your weather is more comfortable now, that must be such a huge relief!

Florida has the most beautiful clouds. I’ve never seen anything like them anywhere else.

I lived in Florida for a while … don’t think I’d ever move back – but I do want to be a bit farther south … lower North Carolina – Upper South Carolina maybe. Don’t know.

Great images. I have pictures just like that of this time of year except I have snow pants and a turtle neck on. Weird huh? Shorts in November? Unheard of here unless you’re a sorority chick. Are you a sorority chick?

And you know, I took it easy this weekend. No computer, no pants, no bra. Just a t-shirt and pajama bottoms.

I am so jealous of you. Us New Englanders endured a weekend of typical weather. Cold Friday night, muggy with pouring rain, fog and screaming winds on Saturday, woke up to an Indian Summer morning on Sunday only to have it drop to a lovely 34 degrees right now. Gotta love that temperature swing!

It was gorgeous here today too. Clear skies and it just kept getting cooler, I love it when the air is cool/crisp vs. thick/suffocating. Any day the forecast doesn’t involve a stickiness scale is a good day in my book.

Oh Oh Oh, you just go ahead and enjoy your perfect weather while I spend 1800 minutes getting the kids dressed in gear warm enough to survive an apocolypes in Antartica so they can go outside for 4.2 minutes and come back in because it’s too cold out.

I’ll be in Orlando in January. Save some weather for me, mmkay? ๐Ÿ™‚

We have our fair share of humidity here in DC, but it’s certainly not FL. I too love the fall – Oscar and I go to the park nearly every day and it’s so nice to be outside without sweltering, even if we have to be in jackets and hats.

Kids and you, look fantastic, btw.

Love the cute park pics! Yeah, it’s definitely cooling off here, although for the next month we will be in that weird 40 degrees-one-day and 70-the-next mode which ends up in a rousing game of sinus infections for all!!! Yeah!!

    Enjoy your perfect winter weather!
