Club Half As Small As You: Week 3
November 3, 2008 7:00 am
Welcome back HASAYers, it’s now week three of the competition. If you want to call it a competition, I pretty much view it as a “Carrie from Colepack keeps running while I sit on the couch and head this fitness club” spoof on fitness. I only exercised twice this week and ate like crap. I’m a fraud and I need somebody to kick me back into gear. On a positive note, somehow I’m down another pound. Weird.
Anywho, this week’s guest blogger is Jen from Steenky Bee. Jen earned the title Steenky Stalker since she was relentless until I gave in and let her guest post. She jogged all the way from Utah to Florida to type it up on my laptop since she thought she had to be here in person and show me her fitness determination. I left her on the porch with the dog’s water bowl and my laptop and let her type her assignment before I sent her back home. If you’ve ever been stalked by Jen, you know she’s the most hilarious, insane (in a good way) person in the blogosphere. Thanks for guest posting Steenky Stalker, you’re the greatest.
——————————————————————————————-
It’s week 3 of club HASAY or YASAY or whatever we’re calling it. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed a huge improvement already. My pants are fitting a little less snug, I have boundless energy and loved ones around me have noticed a considerable change in my attitude.
Oh, who am I kidding? None of that stuff has happened. It’s been a pain. A giant pain so far. They say that it takes around 21 days to form a habit. Well, I formed a habit of coming up with every imaginable excuse not to exercise less than two days after joining this damn club. I’m even winded from just typing this here post. For realsies. I’ve had to stop to catch my breath several times and it’s only the second paragraph.
(Jen is now taking a water break.)
And we’re back! I want to share a few pearls of wisdom I’ve learned so far on the HASAY Challenge/Death Sentence.
1. The treadmill can be used for something other than a place to hang your clothes to let them leisurely air dry. I discovered that if you set the motor to a low speed, around 2.0 MPH or so, those pants will dry a whole lot faster.
2. I really enjoy saying “squat thrust” way more than actually doing one.
3. I get really pumped up watching work out videos. My heart rate continually stays elevated as I’m screaming at Denise Austin that I don’t really enjoy feeling “the stretch”. It hurts, Denise, it hurts. Also? Why do you smile so much, Denise? Yes, we’re all very impressed with the whiteness of your teeth, but seriously, what’s wrong with you?
4. It’s good to change up your work-out with some circuit training once in a while. Some days I start out with a brisk 20-minute walk, then I stop to Twitter mean things about Casey. Other days I begin with strength training (10 reps of lifting my lap top above my head) then I stop to Twitter about bananas and public urination. The key is to keep it fresh. (Clarification: When I said “fresh” I was referring to the workout, not urine. Although, if I had my choice, I think I would choose fresh urine over some that is stale.)
5. I just wanted to say “squat thrust” one more time.
6. Don’t let anyone tell you that Coca-Cola does not fall into a food group. It’s the most delicious food group. And empty calories? Oh, no. Every one of those calories were delicious.
7. It’s okay to try alternative methods of weight loss. For about five days I applied the principles of The Secret to lose weight. I would sit quietly and meditate while I asked the universe for six pack abs. The universe totally got the wrong message and sent me a chicken nugget six pack instead.
8. Try to schedule a regular time for your work outs to help keep you on track. For example, I prefer working out at night. This leaves me plenty of time during the entire day to think of excuses to skip my work out.
9. Pacing back and forth while trying to think up a clever post can burn up to 50 calories. Crying in front of a mirror at your chubby thighs only burns about 12 calories.
10. It helps to have the support of friends. I must have called everyone in HASAY at least once to see if they thought that running out of bacon was a good idea not to exercise. Two of you thought it was. I’m soooo telling Casey.
Keep going people! We’re halfway there. Well, not really, but if I told you we were only in week 3 of this challenge with no end in sight, that wouldn’t be too much of a motivation now, would it?
————————————————————————————————–

on November 3rd, 2008 at 10:10 amOh hi Steenky Jen! Nice to run into you here. Great tip about generating some wind on the treadmill in order to dry your clothes faster. I was wondering if the reverse might be true, and you could actually use your drying rack as exercise equipment? Please advise.

on November 3rd, 2008 at 10:44 amI love the humorous spin on a weightloss support group. Did you know that laughing 15 minutes a day burns up to 40 calories? Think that’s where the term laugh my ass off originated??

on November 3rd, 2008 at 12:30 pmYeah, this is so not happening. I spent most of last week in South Carolina and stuffed myself on restaurant food and top notch BBQ. And someone introduced me to these devilish things called hushpuppies which are delicious, but nothing more than fried fatty goodness.
I may throw in the towel soon.

It is fun. Also, I have it on good authority that typing up those Tweets burns 4 calories an hour. So you’re good there.
And Dee Marie - Those Chipotle SOB’s are such liars. They make it seem like the food is healthy, and I guess it is if you only eat two bites of the burrito. But the freaking things weigh 7 lbs and have 9,466 calories.
They do taste good though.

I like that Steenky Bee, she knows how to bring the funny. OH if only meditating about six pack abs were enough…I could use some chicken nuggets right about now though. Either or.

on November 4th, 2008 at 9:42 amAhhhh! It’s Tuesday already! I’m a slacker theme keeper and totally forgot my update yesterday, so here goes- I’m still afraid to get on the scale. I know I won’t like what it tells me, because my pants don’t fit and the last time I stepped on i I was 18 pounds aboove my goal weight. Maybe by next Monday I’ll have dodged that roadblock. But I did work out 3 times, actually making it impossible to lift my arms for 2 days. I did cardio once, which I hate, and intend to do it 5 days this week. Thanks for being here guys!
